New Year, Lasting Change: Why Real Good Fitness Works
New Year, New Start – Or Something Better?
Every January, gyms fill up with fresh resolutions. Yet statistics show that around 80% of new members quit within a year. Why? Traditional fitness environments often fail to create lasting habits, support, or enjoyment.
At Real Good Fitness (RGF), we do things differently. Our focus isn’t on quick fixes, it’s on building a supportive community, training outdoors in all seasons, and helping people of all ages and abilities find joy in moving. But don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what our members have to say…
“I’ve only been going to RGF classes (Progessions with Connor) for 2 months but I love it because Connor coaches in a very supportive way and is never patronising, I love that the classes are outdoors, the classes are challenging but in a good way and also fun, I’m doing things I never thought I’d do (pull ups!), I like the other people in my class, and I love that RGF have built a community and there are social aspects too. Thanks!”
“I’ve been coming to RGF since COVID, so five years. First did classes, then moved to one to one on a Thursday morning but after a short while a friend asked if she could come too, then another, and another so now the over 60’s group is well established and we love it! I also do 1 to 1 on a Monday when I lift weights. I love the group classes and adore the one to one. I never thought that at v nearly 70 I’d be lifting 65k. Thanks to RGF I am fitter than I was in my 40/50s and wish I’d done this years ago. I can’t thank them, especially Connor enough for keeping me working hard and inspired. I’m one who easily gives up on gyms etc but RGF has changed my approach to exercise and LOVE that it’s outdoors come rain, sun or snow!”
“Been coming to classes for 3 years (I think). I love that the RGF community, everyone who attends is lovely. Connor and Kody are both so encouraging but in a gentle way, there is never any pressure and they are always great at reading and taking into account how people are feeling (tired, ill etc) and suggesting adaptions. I love that RGF classes are outdoors, exercising outside brings me so much joy.”
“I’ve been a member for just over two years now. I’ve always been into fitness (off and on) and was looking for my next challenge. I was a bit baffled to see women knocking out pull ups on my first session and overhead pressing weights that I’d use to squat... But that’s why I stayed. I wanted to be one of those women. And the longer I stayed, the more I got out of it. I made actual proper friends, I felt stronger and fitter, and because of the way Connor and Kody teach I learned a lot more about the how’s and the why’s, and I became a bit more compassionate with myself and my abilities. I look forward to my sessions, they’re never a chore and I always leave feeling pleased that I did it. ”
“I have been coming for just over two years now. I can say with all honesty fitness is not high on my list. I was a gym member and ran. I have also had back problems for a few years, which made me nervous. From day 1, Kody and Connor have been brilliant, and although I complain regularly, they are so encouraging. Being one of the only male members, far from out of place, I have found everyone friendly. This is not just a PE class but a community of people who really encourage each other. ”
“Been coming since returning from Canada in April 2023. My main reason was to build strength and seeing progress. The support from the coaches telling me when I’m doing something wrong or right, encouraging me to do better and pushing me. The community spirit and no judgement from coaches or group members, just genuine support.”
“Been coming for 4 years. I keep coming because of the attention to moving properly, not about weight loss, about celebrating our strengths, being outside, the community I like how supportive Connor is plus all the members, all celebrating each other. Have met so many wonderful people through the classes.”
At RGF, fitness isn’t about punishing workouts or short-term goals. It’s about sustainable progress, encouragement, and connection. Whether it’s lifting heavier than you thought possible, enjoying the energy of outdoor sessions, or finding real friendships along the way, our community is what keeps people coming back long after New Year resolutions fade.
If you’re ready to make fitness a lasting part of your life — and actually enjoy the journey — we’d love to welcome you to the RGF community.
